A MESSAGE FROM OUR PRESCHOOL DIRECTOR, "Miss Pam"

What children learn in our preschool:

* They begin to learn structure and routine.

* They learn to control impulses and are encouraged to make positive choices.

* How to make friends and use their words to settle differences.

* How to be independent...
By being encouraged to take more responsibility. This early practice in self-care skills will help give your child confidence in other settings.

* How to tell a story...
Children have many opportunities to hear stories as well as tell them. It also motivates them to read on their own. We validate their own words through journaling.

* How to cut and paste...
When children work with scissors, glue, crayons and markers, they're developing fine motor skills. This will help with writing skills later on.

* How to build with blocks...
Research has found when preschoolers play with blocks they gain spatial skills and hands-on math experience.

* How to navigate and explore...
Preschoolers are natural scientists and benefit from having plenty of opportunities for hands-on, self-directed experimentation.

* THE most important thing they will learn at our preschool...
** That God loved us so much that He gave us His son Jesus. He loves us unconditionally.
** That Jesus loved us so much that He died and rose again so that we may be saved.
** We have Jesus time daily in the classroom and chapel is done once a week.

A MESSAGE FROM OUR pRIMARY GRADES PRINCIPAL, MR. KRAFFT

(KINDERGARTEN THROUGH 6TH GRADE)

WHO WE ARE
First Good Shepherd Lutheran School is an educational institution sponsored by First Good Shepherd Lutheran Church. It strives to prepare and educate children so that they might better be able to lead a God-pleasing life as American citizens here on earth, as well as to direct them to know and love our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, and thus by faith in Him, receive citizenship with Him in heaven.

THE CURRICULUM
The curriculum of First Good Shepherd Lutheran School follows the general course of study for Lutheran schools. This includes a comprehensive study of the Christian doctrine found in the Holy Scriptures. With few exceptions, text books used in our school are State adopted books. Religious texts are produced by the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod.

PROFILE
First Good Shepherd Lutheran School is part of the total program of Christian education in the congregation. It does however, accept children who are not members of First Good Shepherd Lutheran Church. Since enrollment is limited, children who are members have preference.

First Good Shepherd Lutheran School offers Kindergarten and the six elementary grades in seven classrooms, with an individual teacher for each grade.

The school is not equipped to serve exceptional children, nor is it an institution for disciplinary cases. Such students require specialized care.

Our school sponsors extra-curricular activities for numerous athletic teams for both boys and girls. We have co-ed volleyball for grades 4-6, co-ed basketball in the winter and a spring track meet for children in all grades. Two musicals are presented by the entire student body: one prior to Christmas and another in the spring. We offer scouting and chess club for children of all ages. In the fall, our parents sponsor a day-long carnival and in the spring a field day for the entire student body. School award parties are presented to children with good conduct and the principal’s award is an honor to be achieved by those students who have outstanding conduct.

First Good Shepherd Lutheran School admits students of any race, color, national and ethnic origin to all rights, privileges, programs and activities generally accorded or made available to students at the school. It does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, national and ethnic origin in administration of its educational policies, admission policies and other school administered programs.

OUR MINISTRY:
